Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month Kick Off
In 2012, Utah's Governor declared August Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month. The annual celebration features a variety of activities throughout the state. This is the Kick Off event for the months activities. Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month Kick Off provides a platform to achieve the following goals, regardless of religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or ethnicity:
- Educate about our cultural assets, services, products, and programs available through Pacific Island businesses, entrepreneurs, and community organizations.
- Counter negative stereotypes of Pacific Islanders and instill positive self-identity in our youth and surrounding communities.
- Preserve and promote Pacific Island cultural heritage and traditions, acknowledging the similarities and embracing the differences among our cultures.
- Bridging communities by honoring community and government leaders.
- Enlarge ourselves and our communities by engaging all, finding our commonalities through diverse cultural exchange
The event begins with a Volleyball Tournament inside the Sorenson Multicultural Center from 8am - 2pm. If you're interested in competing in the 2019 UPIHMKO Volleyball Tournament please email Tournament@UPIHM.com.
